Mary Lou Brooks
I was born and raised in the Calgary area and moved to the Wildcat Hills in 1960.
My grade 9 teacher introduced me to oil painting and had me enter the Calgary Stampede Art Show where my entry took second place. I have been hooked on art ever since and I am so fortunate to be surrounded by all this beauty. I try to capture the light and colours that change every second, making it a challenge to put down on paper or canvas.
As an artist I have had no formal training but I have taken as many art workshops as time and money would allow. I have also taught watercolour workshops. I am a life member of the Cochrane Art Club, 10 year member of the Foothills Art Club, founding member of the Beaupre Artists Guild and now a proud member of the Wildcat Artists.
I have had the pleasure of working with some very impressive artists, some who make their living with their work, but the artists who have taught me the most are the ones that have open minds and are willing to try something new. I call it the “what if” way of thinking.
