Laura Procunier
I moved to the Cochrane area in 2003 and immediately began art classes with Mary Lou Brooks. Mary Lou took me under her wing and taught me the joy of watercolour painting. Mary Lou encourages her students to continue learning from many teachers and I was fortunate to also take classes with Jack Reid and Marla Blackwell.
I was introduced to acrylics and had the benefit of many classes with Lorri Pullman-MacDonald. Then I discovered oil painting. I have enjoyed classes with Claire Miles, Doug Swinton, and Robert Woods. Friends introduced me to mixed medium. Several opportunities have since been available to take technically invaluable and totally inspirational classes with Ursula Reynolds.
As an aspiring artist, I find one of the greatest rewards of the painting genre is being encouraged to really see all the beauty in the world, in a range of colours that I never before noticed, nor appreciated. And it is this learning to pay attention to all of nature’s fascinating detail and beauty in little things that has so enriched my life. I would not have missed it for the world.
I would like to thank all the great friends I have met along the way. The constant encouragement, support, and camaraderie have impacted my life in a manner that was truly unexpected.
