J L (Jan) Gauthier
Jan was born in Drumheller and lived in many places until settling in Calgary with her family at age 16.
Jan always had an interest and appreciation of the changing landscapes around her and the rugged beauty of the Red Deer valley of her childhood instilled a lifetime interest in art. As a child she spent many hours exploring and drawing the hills and valleys around her.
Her interest in art continued to grow and in 1974 she took her first class in oil painting. She has since taken workshops and classes with many well known artists. In 1975 she joined the Cochrane Art Club and is a lifetime member. She is also a member of the Beaupre Artists Guild and a proud member of the Wildcat Artists.
She continues to work in oil and loves the rich texture of the medium. She also enjoys working with other mediums and has now turned her hand to acrylic. Her subject matter is varied and she takes great pleasure in portraying members of her family in pastels, watercolours and oils.
Her inspiration comes from the constantly changing beauty around her, her family and friends. She loves working along side her fellow artists, their enthusiasm and the exchange of ideas is both inspiring and exciting.
